I'm headed back to MYC tomorrow. It's only an overnight trip. I have a few meetings, an interview, and I have to pickup my spare laptop. Long story short, my backlight went out.

Good news, "Finding My Freedom" will be included in an upcoming anthology. I can't believe it...my first Femdom piece received an offer! Maybe I should write more stories when heavily medicated...hey, it worked for Lord Byron. *Shrugs*

Seriously, I'm humbled. I was utterly blind-sided by the offer and I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to the cheeky gits who "Put me on blast"*. You guys are amazing.

*I had to Google that bit. :)

It's rare that I show my claws as there are very few times when it's necessary. However, when anyone attacks an author on my site, the gloves come off.

Let me say this as plainly as possible: This is my house. The authors who have graciously chosen to share their work are here by my invitation and while constructive criticism is always welcome, malicious personal attacks are not.

In pursuit of our dream, we expose ourselves to daily judgment from people both seen and unseen. It takes guts to do what we do.

That being said, the fastest way to get your ass blocked* is to come after one of us. I will not sit idling by and allow anyone (readers included) under my protection to be insulted and/or bashed. Take it elsewhere.

Please read the "About Us" section. In short:

"I do not, nor will I, stand for any bashing of my authors or other authors on this site.

My motto is simple: I didn't cut my teeth in this industry by biting the backs of my fellow authors."

The writers here have my full confidence. An attack on them is an attack on me. I dare you to try me. It won't go well for you, but you're welcome to try.

* Oh yeah, thanks to my super-duper programming ability, you to can be blocked from my site. Please don't waste your time emailing me in hopes of being unblocked. Once you're gone, you're gone.

Good day

I miss Eva. I didn't think allowing her to return to Switzerland full-time would be this difficult but it has been. Yes, BC has been more than enough company but I miss my girl.

She and a few classmates went to Nice this weekend and she sent pictures home. Boy, you forget how fast they grow up! Greg called her and demanded she put some clothes on. I kindly pointed out that he bought the bathing suit she was wearing. He didn't cotton to my remark. :)

BC is adjusting to her absence. He talks about her all of the time--I think this is his way of coping. Well, that and sleeping in her room. We're very fortunate that she told such an active role with him. Seriously, these two are like white on rice. Remember the turtle incident? That was just one example of their weirdness!

Anyway, Eva and I talked for a little while earlier today but, as always, she was in the middle of something or headed off to one of her many activities. Greg hasn't spoken to her for more than five minutes at a time, shocking. I guess our little girl is growing up. I miss my little peanut head, can't wait to see her in Dec. She'd better come home! :(

Modern Heroes: Alpholes

*Deep breath, rubs temples*

Last night I sat on a lit panel where we discussed adapting heroes to fit the modern woman.

I’m not going to rant, however I will say that I’m glad we’re moving away from the homogenous cardboard cutout/lip bruising/ borderline gay heroes of the past.

Movin’ on!

It’s as simple as this: Women want heroes who are determined without being stalkers; assertive without being pushy; confident without being unbending, sensitive without being a punk, sexy without being a hoe. The aforementioned are pretty standard. Adapting heroes for modern women doesn’t mean we strip them of their alphaness (is that a word?). It means the story doesn’t rely solely on him and his Golden Boner or his ability to convince the heroine that she can’t live without him. Since the modern woman is self-sufficient, the old ‘rescue me” heroes don’t fly anymore.

Today’s heroes must be as complex as their conquest. Anything less will result in a flat and appealing character and a flood of hate mail. Their have to be a combination of alpha and asshole. Introducing the ‘Alphole’…aka Gabriel, Mark, Edward, and Will. They’re edgy and tender; perceptive and aloof; cold and genuine, they respect the heroines ability to handle herself but they don’t all her to walk all over them. In short, they’re bloody amazing! Yes, women still want the nice guy but he has to possess a little bad-ass also. Take the goody-goody Luke Skywalker. He was cool but the rake Hans Solo sent women running for their toy drawers.

Thankfully, my fellow panelist and I were on the same page and we had a very open and fruitful discussion…so much so, that I want your opinion on a few things:

Crying: How do you feel about heroes crying?

Doing the nasty: Slow seduction, light aggression, total doormat, or lingering poet?

Attributes: What physical attributes appeal to you?

Breaking him: Should this be done simply to make the heroine seem stronger? If so, does this change your perception of him?

The Man Behind Will Rothschild

I’ve received a few email requiries wanting to know the name of my muse for Will Rothschild of “Answering His Call”. Many of you know I use real people, friends and strangers alike, as blueprints for my heroes. Will is no different.

Will steams from a friend who I can not name, however we’ll call him ZS. Mr. ZS is one of those flamin’ hot artsy types that you never see coming til he has you in his tractor beam. By then you’ll do his bidding.

Yes, ZS comes from an old family however you’re more likely to see him trekking through the mountains with his camera than hanging out with the snobs. Sorry ladies, like Will, ZS dropped off the social radar years ago so don’t bother sending social invites (balls, charity events)...they ALL end up in the garbage. No offence.

Two of his ex’s emailed me after the first installment screaming that I’d nailed his character (I won’t go into the rest of the email, TMI). After ZS read the installment, he called, “You got my eye color wrong. My eyes are blue not green”. Ha! Funny he didn’t question anything else. I love him to death.

So there you have it. Will is ZS! I think his ex’s just had a collective orgasm. ;-)

Blind Passion Now Available

Happy Labor Day weekend folks!

I started writing this story back in January of this year for an anthology that had caught my attention. The call was for stories involving people with disabilities, and this was how my characters, Diane and Ethan were born. When I read Phaze's guidelines, I noticed the deadline was a month away. Needless to say, with juggling deadlines for my current publishers, I didn't make the time to enter this anthology, so I kept it as a free read and added some paragraphs when time permitted.

Unlike Vampire's Plaything, Blind Passion will have a HEA, and is more of a sweet, sensual, erotic story.
Diane is a receptionist who meets Ethan in a cafe in Baltimore, MD during her lunch hour. Ethan introduces himself, and the attraction is instant. Actually, Ethan noticed her days before, but finally summoned the courage to approach her.

Part 2 has been completed for well over a month, but, I've tweaked it quite a few times. I try to read and re-read my stories before submitting because sometimes, there is that teensy weensy typo you don't catch. Then, when you set down to read the story at a later date, you find that little typo, laughing, almost mocking you. Ha Ha, didn't catch me!! LOL : 0

Anyway, I plan to submit the second installment once I read through again, tweak some more and have written a good portion of part 3.

I hope you all will enjoy Blind Passion, have a Blessed Holiday Weekend!!

Ciao

I'm plotting the third installment, and as many of you know, this story has the ability to go in sooo many directions. This is why I'm making this into a novel. ; ) Of course, the characters will be different, and so will the setting. It may even take place in a different century. For me, I'm enjoying writing about the fine line between love and hate, and as I stated in the first installment, this isn't your normal erotic romance story.

It's funny how some of my free reads evolve into novellas. There is just something intriguing to me as I write this. I've been hit with so many ideas, its impossible for me not to ignore my muse.
Everything you've read in these first two installments are just the icing on the cake, short summaries of my other version of this story.

Now, part 3 calls for some input with you readers. I'm asking you, should this story end as a HEA, a HFN, or something tragic? I'm curious to know how you would like to see this story play out. Opinions matters to me, and are greatly appreciated.

Ciao

Heaving Bosoms & Rigid Fiddlesticks

I’m beginning to think my true calling in life was that of the consummate antagonist because my keen ability to piss people off is unrivaled. Yesterday, two fellow authors and I sat on a panel discussing the evolution of standard prose & genre definition.

To be honest, I’m rather sick of these conversations. With the publishing houses and editors casting their lot on the side of modernity, we can all agree that the unyielding rules of style and genre categorization are being rewritten. The days of black and white lit are gone; in its place we have gray areas: Romanica, polylit, docudrama.

Not only have readers embraced these new genres, we created them. I say we because most modern writers are nothing more than refugees from the Harlequin camp who struck out on our own after reading one too many tales of heaving bosoms and rigid fiddlesticks.

“Cocks have no place in romance.”

I don’t know about that. True, one shouldn’t employ graphic language to create a scene; it should be used to punctuate the setting as I’ve written here and here. Cocks will remain in my writing. But the level to which the bluestockings are prepared to go to bar any form of naughtiness from impregnating their genre pretty much epitomizes their staunch commitment to present sex completely stripped of any pleasure.

And don’t get me started on humor!

One of the panelists mentioned reading “Hers For The Taking” and found the humor 'light'. Humor, it turns out, has no place in romance and erotica. Bitch, it wasn’t like there were juggling circus clowns! And yes, I told her as much (there’s where the pissing off bit came in). I’m a cheeky smartass with a hankering for the absurd, and I have a sneaky suspicion my readers are the same way.

A story should combine a little of everything: Humor, love, tragedy, and sexytime. No one wants to read entire stories about characters taking long rain soaked walks on the moor, dreaming of unrequited love. Even to the most untrained of eyes, that story would suck!

So, there you go. I pissed off my fellow panelist. This to, she shall overcome.

Yesterday, Eva sent me this picture. I love that gal!

Bite Me! The Blog

With the swelling popularity of television shows such as True Blood and Being Human, and the literary mega franchise Twilight, it was only a matter of time before the vampire fetish crawled from the back ally club scene into mainstream society. The bloodsuckers of old horror films have shed their soulless past and emerged with a hot sexy vibe that has everyone begging to be bitten.

From clothing to views on sexuality, Vampires have assimilated into almost every facet of our day-to-day lives, as such, their shock value is virtually lost. Many argue this acceptance of vampires is due in large part to our better understanding of the biological process of death and our own morality. Rubbish, its Brad Pitts’s fault. Plastering his shirtless body on any product is equivalent to writing a blank check on the soul of humanity.

“Mommy, miming farm animals can’t be an abomination. Shirtless Brad Pitt said so. See?”

There was a time when average people frowned upon anyone taking part in subculture antics and we labeled them basement dwellers. But with the immense success of role-playing games such as Vampire: The Masquerade, an average Joe can slay a virgin in the woods and pop back in his Ford Focus without the neighbors batting an eye.

A large percentage of the Vampires swelling fame can be attributed contemporary writers. They’re doing today what Anne Rice did for vampires in the 70’s. Vampires have always been dark and alluring, but modern artists have repackaged, revamped (no pun intended), and sexed up the vampire image something fierce!! Really, the fangy crowd should bow and kiss our shiny boots—were it not for writers and filmmakers, they’d be laid out with Aunt Bee’s table leg protruding from their chest. I mean it vampires, bow down!

In my humble opinion, the vampire fetish differs very little from other fetish. As long as the participants adhere to the ground rules, it’s all good. It goes without saying that some people use the vampire fetish as a liberating conduit. You can’t be blamed for having a screaming orgasm or stepping outside of convention if you were under the control of a swarthy vein-drainer. Two points here: First, regardless of what thumpers tell you, orgasms are our divine human right. Second, see paragraph number three. No one cares!

Whether we understand it or not, the vampire fetish and the vampire allure are here to stay. Below you’ll find my recommended vampire documentaries (click name to view) and vamp based books. Enjoy!

Documentaries:

Smithsonian Channel
The Vampire Princess

BBC
A History of the Vampire

History Channel
Decoding the Past: Vampire Secrets

Books:

The Bitten by L.A.
