Excuse me for a second while I gather thoughts. This won't be pretty. I’m foaming at the mouth, twitchy angry.
Where do I begin?
The "I'm not a racist but..." disclaimer? No, the "they use my bathroom" bit? Damn, I can't make up my mind which one is most troubling. This is the reason I moved to Switzerland…I couldn’t take the racist views of some people. I know there are bigots everywhere but it’s something about the bigots in the US that get under my skin. We put ourselves out there as the torch bearers for democracy, the damn world police, the ‘everyone is equal’ melting pot of freedom and liberty.
That’s what gets to me!
Its many cases, not all, this just isn’t true. We can’t go belittling other countries when we have weeds in our own yard. Where’s Rev. Al now? Why isn’t someone organizing a march for this couple? Haven’t they been discriminated against? Oh yeah, that’s right…the dude is White.
Liberty doesn’t have a colour. It doesn’t have a religion. It doesn’t have a gender. Liberty is liberty. There is no half way about it…It is or it isn’t. “You can say liberty for all but only if...” It doesn’t work that way.
Those people in LA may not reflect the views of all Americans however it certainly doesn’t cast us in a favourable light when presented on the world stage. We look like hypocrites.
