Okay folks, sit tight and bear with me…I’m about to rant.
I rarely post o topics of religion and/or politics because everyone has the right to their own and no one wants to hear mine. But this article disturbed me. Okay, it pissed me off to the point where I had to have BC leave the room lest he learn new four letter words.
Here a clip from the article in question. Please read the article in its entirety to get the full view of why I’m so angry.
Quote:
MOSCOW - The head of a prominent Russian dairy said on Thursday he will fire employees who have abortions or refuse to be married in Russian Orthodox Church ceremonies.
Critics said the rules set out by the president of Russkoye Moloko, Vasily Boiko-Veliky, violated the constitution and labour laws.
While the Russian Orthodox Church criticised the rules, they are likely to add to concerns among liberals and minority faiths about the growing influence of the dominant church.
“We have about 6,000 employees, most of whom are Orthodox, and I expect them to be faithful and to repent,” Boiko-Veliky told Reuters.
End Quote.

Who the fuck do they think they are?! This is the bullshit that drives me up the wall with religious extremists. They have no right to impose their beliefs on anyone else and then the damn church sits back and does nothing. Well, nothing unless it flies in the face of what they’re preaching.
Hatred, extremism, and social bigotry are corrosive; it eats away at civilization. It throws us back as a people (remember what happened when the Moors were driven from Europe?). It doesn’t matter if it goes against or offends us personally…who’s to say that the next round of trouble won’t be pointed at you, your beliefs, your moral conscience. No, hatred, extremism, and social bigotry has to be root out where we find it before it takes hold.
Gay marriage, abortion, any of the other ‘hot button’ topics shouldn’t be ignored simply because it doesn’t affect us. Neither should we be willing to condemn them because it goes against our personal beliefs. It wasn’t too many years ago that interracial relationships, anti-slavery, women’s rights, and desegregation was considered a sin or immoral. They said the aforementioned threw off the natural order of society.
What!? This is why I say, “Just because it’s not your fight doesn’t mean it’s not a fight” What’s going to happen when the zealots put out the flames of abortion, gay marriage or whatever? They’re going to look around for the next ‘hot issue’. The next time it could be you standing around looking for help.
Last year one of my employees found herself in need of an abortion. We provide her medical insurance so I told her to call Aetna to see how much they covered. She was told by the phone representative that Aetna doesn’t cover abortions. Greg and I lost it! Greg called back and flipped out. After swearing up a blue streak, he was told that some reps were telling callers that Aetna didn’t cover the procedure because it went against their personal beliefs.
Don’t think this is an isolated incident, he was told, “It happens all of the time. We are settling suits.”
I almost burst into tears when Greg’s assistant dug up all of the lawsuits. What if my employee didn’t have someone going to bat for her? What about those poor women who didn’t think to call back or demand an explanation? Whether I believe in abortion or not, it’s not my place to put my beliefs on others whose shoes I don’t walk in.
Needless to say, we sorted everything out for my employee. But damn it! It shouldn’t have happened. Our beliefs are our beliefs. They shouldn't be forced on others...and no one should use the church to farther their twisted agandas. The church shouldn't allow themselves to be used. Why is no one else screaming about this?!
Sorry I had to get that off my chest. Please forgive any typos, I’m too emotional to re-read what I’ve written….I think I need a long hot bath and a cup of tea. This is why Greg limits my access to world news!! lol!

Wow! that is crazy! He has no right to fire someone just because they had an abortion ar won't get married in a orthodox church! As far as your friend. I am a medical biller so I deal with insurace companied all the time. I can't think of any insurance company that will pay for an abortion. Insurance companies will only pay out on medical procdures that are medically necesary to a persons life or health. Unfortunatley while abrotions may be a legal right be they are not a medically necessity. So unless the pregnacy somehow posesa medial danger to th mother and puts her life at risk good luck getting an insurancce company to pay for it!

Oh yeah insurances companies pay for abortions all of the time. For a fact BC/BS, United Health Care, Tri-Care, and Aetna all pay. It was explained to us that it has to do with the way each company writes their policy.
It's very political however the companies that I've worked for (SAP, EDS, the DoD) have all paid. And we knew our policy covered the procedure so when she was lied to, we were able to call them on it. I guess if the companies are willing to cover vigra they can cover abortions. Getting a man's penis hard isn't a necessity either. Funny. I just realized something! Most of the companies that I've worked for were working under government contracts or international companies. I wonder if that has something to do with it? You think so? They pretty much paid for everything...even non-medical breasts reduction. |

It could be cause I work for catholic hospital. I have had women come in a miscarry and have a dnc and get the claim denied by the insurance company because they thought it was a coded as an abortion, I have to call all he time and explain that our hospital doesn't not preform abortions and the patient miscarred and have the claim reprocessed. You are so right I odviously don't run it to in the hosptial but yeah if they can pay for viagra they most certainly should pay for an abortion. lol!

Sorry I forgot to aadd you are probally right. the extent of how good your paln is what is cover does depend on how much much money the company isnwiil to pay on their employess. Most goverment plans are top of the line and will cover more things than a employee of a smaller company who can't afford to pay out the higher premiums on their employees

OMG! I was just getting ready to mention the Catholic bit. Some, not all, of the reps who were giving out fail 'no' were Catholic. It's so sad that some people have made this into an anti-Catholic argument. "It's the Catholics fault!"
No it isn't. It's the fault of the people who said no to their callers even though the policies covered it. They could have been of any faith. I'm pretty sure it was more than Catholics gives false information out. But people have focused on the Catholics. I don't agree with some of their teaching but hey, I don't have to. I'll just slap you down when I see faith crossing over folks personal liberties. :) Maybe I should stay away from the news papers. lol! |

This is a perfect example as to why the churches are losing members. With the condition the world is in today, yeah we should believe in something but then again none of us will go to "heaven"-the catholics don't think the protestants will make it--the jews think the christians will burn in hell, the jehovah witness (please stop knocking on my door), the mormons, and let's not forget the muslims-none are heaven bound. it's sad and laughable at the same time all religion, in my opinion, do have similar foundation.
Abortion-I have never been in a situation where one was considered, personally having one would be a last resort for me. I do believe the Catholic church, especially the european Catholic church (I have never met bigger hypocrites then the british catholics) will have a lot to answer for. Though I now despise my ex, his family and everything they represent (don't get me started) a few years back his sister was pregnant, fyi the family is catholic which means she had to have a catholic doctor. her pregnancy was going great or so she thought. i'm not sure how often ultra sounds here done over there but one was done and the doctor notice something was wrong with the baby but the doc didn't disclose this info to her (abortion+catholics=no no) when the baby was born, his upper torso was the only thing that had develop (internally was a mess as well) so he had nothing below the waist he actually stayed alive for a few hours. she did say if she had known the condition of the baby she would have aborted but that's a good catholic doctor for you. the narrow minded views of some religious practices are beyond me. |

Are you kidding me?! Someone should slap that doctor. What if your sister had died during childbirth...all for a child who stood no chance of living? Lady, you have me pacing!! I could scream. This is another reason why I say no one has the right to impose their beliefs on others.
It was your sister choice, not he's. She would've been the one dead, not him. If you can't give my life than you don't have a say over anything I chose to do....that's the way we should look at it. People need to take their noses out of folks business. It's up to them to sort out things for themselves. Okay, don't get me started again. |

Ok Mr Greg needs needs to officially start limiting your news media exposures. yep the world is screwed up. I guess if my ex sister in law did pass away during the child birth, they would have said "thy will be done" I think all organized religion have failed the ones they were intended to help.

The words "miscarry", "abortion" and "LOL" should never appear in the same paragraph. I am writing a letter to have this put in the next revision of The Chicago Manual of Style.
I feel today I must see you and raise you - as THIS was lobbed on my transom this morning. http://www.nytimes.co m/2010/08/17/world/asia/1 7stoning.html?th&emc= th "The punishment was carried out by hundreds of the victims’ neighbors in a village in northern Kunduz Province, according to Nadir Khan, 40, a local farmer and Taliban sympathizer, who was interviewed by telephone. Even family members were involved, both in the stoning and in tricking the couple into returning after they had fled." *blink* How's that for some rough play porn? I'm going to go throw up in a bucket. Tracy - feel free to not post this. I'm... I just really don't like people today. |

You don't have to go to Moscow to look for stuff like this, well this is in our backyard all over the place. I'm not sure what the Russian Constitution says, but I know what this one says and because I worked so long as a paralegal, law is near and dear to my heart. I much 'preaching' about to my class of potential paralegals. I'm also a Christian but I realize this country was set up have separation of church and state, it's a good thing, in fact it's wonderful. Genuis on behalf of the founders because who knows whose faith will be looked upon with kind eyes one day and scorned the next. Yes, you're right just because something may offend me doesn't mean people don't have the right the to do it. I don't go around converting or condemning, that's not my job. I make sure I do the number one rule 'treat others as I would like to be treated'. That's with respect and fairness, my impending marriage at one point in this country was illegal in 41 states, why would I ever get behind any lunancy that would make gay marriage illegal. As a person who wants to practice my religion freely, why would I ever get behind the lunancy of saying Muslims have no right to build a community center. I heard this on television the other day and it wasn't the first time I heard these words but it was the first time I'd heard that the person who spoke them Martin Niemoller wasn't speaking as an abstract, he was speaking about his experience in Nazi Germany.
THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. THEN THEY CAME for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. THEN THEY CAME for me and by that time no one was left to speak up." It's a scary thought, but fear and hate run amok because usually we just stand back and let it run. |

Eugenia, I'm speechless! Well said...well said! Lunancy is exactly what it is. It may not be your fight, but it's still a fight. Girl, don't get me going again. *breathe*

I have the same problem when it comes to hearing the world news. I get pissed off at the ignorance that should no longer exist. It’s seems we take one step forward and two steps backwards. WTF? Do I blame religion? Abso-freaking-lutely. It’s as if everything is decreed by God. Whatever, I can’t get into religion it gives me a headache and I usually end up insulting someone. However I will say this I do believe in everyone having the right to practice whatever faith they want. Really it doesn’t matter to me if it’s Wicca or Islam as long as it doesn’t impose on anyone’s civil liberties.
I know I’m probably going off topic here, but I can’t help but refer to the Mosque being built near Ground Zero. Is it really offensive? No. I don’t think so. I believe this whole situation is just fueling bigotry. I mean really there are lots and lots of Catholic churches in neighborhoods where children have been molested by priests. Should we stop production of those too? Oh and I love the picture. |

Calvetta, take a bow. You're right. We seem to be going backwards. We can't allow lawmakers to use religion as basis for out laws especially when it damns certain ethnic groups. Okay, I have to step back from this....I'm getting heated again.
Thanks! Greg has this picture in his office. He's such a freedom-fighter. |

This country has separation of church and state for a reason. It has freedom of religion for a reason because that also means freedom from religion. I'm not impose any of my religious beliefs on anyone and the thing with the Muslim Community Center (it ain't even a mosque) 4 blks away from Ground Zero is just crap to get riled up over nothing so folks can get votes in November. I'm so tired of being pandered too, don't get me started LOL. We must watch what we let people tell us, we need some critical thinking in this country instead of this herd mentality. It's slippery slope, it's slipppery slope. It offends me a religious person, I have no right to impose my beliefs, I have no right to tell others theirs are wrong. Not all religious people believe in being zealots, many of have sense. And I'll stand up and do what's right, even when it's not popular because I don't want my rights impeded, why would I impede others.
