You may have noticed that I haven’t post anymore contest submissions. This is because Emily found that a number of them were plagiarized from other sites. Not in pieces, the entire story. To protect my LLC from suit, not to mention my loyalty to the original authors, I will not post any of the stories until they have been properly and thoroughly checked.
Look folks, I’ve had my work stolen. I’ve said this in the past but let me repeat it, “We make this shit look easy”. Artist, of any kind, put a lot of energy and time into their projects; to have it stolen is a violation that cuts at the core of what we do. Our work is an extension of who we are. We want to share it with others however, to see it trampled underfoot is brutal.
The contest was my way of helping out around school time while giving aspiring scribblers a platform to showcase their work. It pains me that a few people have ruined it for the rest of you. I will resume the contest once Emily and crew have completed their task.
Thank you.

This is sad on so many levels. someone plagerized part of my Thesis on Victomology (the first 12 pages in it entirety). They didn't even try to make it look like there own. Imaging being called by the President of the College asking to submit my orignal paper from 2 semesters prior. He wanted the marked up paper with the professor signature.
I was pissed it took 4 months of collecting research and 10 draft before i was comfortable with the final product for someone to just take my work and pass it off as there own. I can't write to save my life. If its not a brief, a research paper, or some legal correspondence I'm useless. I know this so I didn't enter the contest. Why the hell can't people be more honest with themselves instead of messing up something that was supposed to be fun for everyone else. Anyway all this to say I undestand why your upset and the contest is on hold now. I guess they really thought you wouldn't be checking whats going on your site |

I'm sorry to hear your thesis was stolen. I can imagine the headache you went through...it's no quick fix. I know you put a ton of time in it.
I have to check what goes on the site. I want to protect the artist...I don't want to see their work being mishandled. Sadly, folks have ruined the contest. Damn! I guess you can't be nice. Lady, your story would've kicked butt! If you can write a lift-worthy thesis, you can write a story. :) |

Tracy your probably right because i have a vivid imagination but when it comes to dialouge I can't get it right so I leave it to the experts and show my appreciation for their talent by buying their book.
But maybe I'll try one day and have you read it and tell me how to make it better |

Put that imagination to work and crank out a story. Checkout the cheat sheets I created. Lord, I had someone lift those as well!!

Tracy
that's really sad/pathetic and I'm pretty sure it's only a handful who attempted to plagiarise others works but you can't be too careful. I was very naive when I first bought a ebook (I actually like hardcopies but I do understand the benefits of ebooks) I just assumed they all would have some sort of copy right protection, but on another author site she told how one person bought her ebook and placed it on a piracy website by the time she was able to get it remove 40 copies were forwarded. hard times falls on everyone but why would some want to take credit for someone else work or basically steal someone financial benefit. we'll just patiently wait until you get everything sorted |

Judy, the fear of having my books stolen was the reason "Seduce Me" wasn't offered as an eBook. I had NO plans on offering any of my work in e-format unless I knew the person and was confident I wouldn't be betrayed.
"Make Her Want It" was offered. Thankfully only a handful were ordered in e-format...and I knew or trusted most of the people, you being one of them. You can only get the ebook from my site. If you see it available anywhere else, please let me know. I write 'scenes' for other authors and don't ask for credit...some people can write their own stuff and some need help. This is a dirty little secret no one talks about. But this isn't stealing...this is helping one another. Stealing is lifting work from another site and passing it off as yours. I hope to run the contest again very soon. |

Aww, that sucks! Butt-heads. Are you changing and/or extending the deadline? Or are you just putting it on hold indefinitely?

I'm killing it for now until Emily and crew have gone through the submissions we have. I don't want to overwhelm or put any unneeded pressure on them.

Hi Tracy,
It's sad but true what people do. My books are sold in ebook format first. Someone was actually on the piracy site requesting my book Simply Beautiful the first day of the release. I won't even check anymore because it's so frustrating. I get frustrated because the author puts all the time and work into the manuscript just for someone else to benefit from his or her work. Truly sad. Serenity |

Serenity, someone needs to shut down those pirate sites. We authors need to demand our publishers take a more proactive role in the matter. My publisher is absolutely amazing and he given me a ton of info regarding the loopholes these sites have going for them. And there are plenty!
Long story short, we print only authors are the key. The more of us that speak up the better. The theft doesn't hit me as hard because of the amount of books I sell (thank goodness I haven't been hacked). However, it's KILLING the newbies and e-format only artist. We print guys have got to step up and speak out. |

I have a free story up on a website and half of story up on it also. I was going to complete the other story but I started to get nervous about the site and whether it was protecting folks work. My guess is, they aren't. So I've chucked up the one story as a possible lost, I can't seem to get them to take it down. The other one I completely stopped publishing any chapters on that site, they got some of it but I'll be damned if they get the rest. The rest of my work is stored in my computer. I really love writing and would love to share it with others but because of pirating, I've decided to just keep my writing to myself. It sucks because when you write you desire to share it an those folks that have plagarized other people's material need to be ashamed. The lack of integrity is just astounding. Everybody is so damn lazy and deceitful nowadays and I hate to say this but the internet makes it easy to for them to do this.
Hope the contest gets back on track soon Tracy. |

It's sad that the site won't allow you to take your work down. It's your right as the writer. The site you mentiioned shouldn't have that kind of control over your work and they should protect you via their LLC if the material is copied. That's standard business. I'm not sure who these people are but they don't know much about the law. Goodness, people really need to be about business and stop jerking others around.
Folks laughed when I told them Greg and his minions took over a month to finalize the sites' policy terms and conditions. Hell, it's air tight, though! If you ever decide to share your work, please let me know. All of the authors on my site fall under my LLC copyright protection and retain all rights to thier material. I hope to bring the contest back very soon. It pissed me off. |
