After four solid days of peppering Amazon, the material stolen by ‘Elizabeth Summers’ has been removed! We couldn’t have gotten this far without your help. The underlying solidarity within the publishing industry is awe inspiring.
Expect a ‘thanks you’ from Damon very soon. He still has a long road ahead but, with our assistance, the bumps will be lessened.
We've cleared the first hurdle. The other stolen material by the other 'authors' mentioned in the article and those identified since the original post hasn’t been removed.
We still have a fight ahead but tonight take a bow or do a little dance!!! WooHoo!!

Did they think ditching one crook would appease us? Do they believe we're stupid? How insulting!! They haven't heard the last of this. If we don't push for policy change, all of our efforts would've been for nothing. We’re still in the same position, and there are more ‘authors’ selling lifted material on Amazon. We still need YOUR support.
What we've accomplished in four days can't be attributed to luck or the influence of one person. Our combined energy forced Amazon out of hiding. Stop now, and we lose what ground we've gained.

The agreement that Amazon has with the "author" doesn't protect them against the real author taking action against them. All it does is provide them with a means of passing on the pain if they get sued for plagiarism. You are entitled to all proceeds from plagiarised sales, all costs of recovery and, why not try it.. damages. Amazon have not "brought the matter to a close" by removing the offending item. If they disagree, legal action should help them to understand.
I have been in this situation in the print world. A work of mine was stolen and included in a book published by a reputable publisher, on the strength of assurances from the editor that they had rights to it. The publisher was mortified and all too aware of their legal responsibilities. |
