Hello everyone! Here it is more questions from the minions.
Question 1: Who has been your favourite character to write for and why?
Answer: That’s a hard one. They’re all my favourites for different reasons. I’d have to say Edward is my number one because he’s proven to be so complex. He lives a very compartmentalized life so to see him interact with the other characters really opens me up to different possibilities with language and dialog.
Ali has been a favourite as well because I was able to slowly bring her true character from the column days until what who she is now in the book. It’s quite remarkable to see her grow. I think she’s moved out of Nick’s shadow and has taken on a life of her own. In the book the readers will get a sense of who she was before Nick.
Question 2: Do you ever not see what you're writing?
Answer: Absolutely! Had a writing instructor in college once tell me that she was just as surprised as the readers how her stories unfolded. That’s just flaming weird because you’re writing it, you have to see where the story is going…right? Wrong.
You have a clear picture of the ending but the journey along the way is what continues to unfold as the story move along. Sometimes I’ll start writing the story and end up scrapping the copy and starting over again because it took a turn I didn’t expect or the characters integrity would be jeopardized. I was here typing away at a story one night and BAM it hit me...."Oh my God! He's going to die!" As hard as I tried to rework the storyline it couldn't be helped, there was no way around it and it torn me apart....:(
Question 3: Do you ever cry while you’re writing?
Answer: Yes! Back when I was writing the column I had to kill one of my favourite characters and it broke my heart. I mourn when they mourn, cry when they cry and hurt when they hurt. It’s all part of giving the characters voices. This is also why I use their inner voices in my stories so that the readers can hear what they're thinking at this moment. If you listen to Edward’s inner voice you’ll piss yourself laughing at least twice in the story and Nick will make you want to dry hump him…J
